Re: Odoo Migration Hackday at bloopark

Hi Nhomar,

well i am not objecting against a very narrow focus on OpenUpgrade
(which is absolutely cool for the whole community) or anything else
(with limited functional scope) AND infact i am a huge supporter of
getting things done in an agile and fast (maybe also call it lean) way.

Neighter i'd like to make things bigger than they are. BUT what i'd
desperately avoid is having a first "OCA flagged code sprint" in
Germany (the home of SAP) attending a majority few valuable resources
from far (other European countries) and farer (lets put Mexico or
Venezuela as practical examples) but only one or two German partners
attending with no or very limited local impact / attention (visibility
and / or contribution wise) but only their dollars signs in the eyes

Although preparing everything nicely and with enough upfront time
doesn't necessarily limit this risk (of only few people attending or
the wrong attending) to zero, there is as substantial added value to
let a University (freedom of research) and a Capital City (public
organization) buy in to such an idea (an open international hacking
event for the good of a given society) and making sure they also spread
the word and give their support (visibility wise and maybe hopefully
with resources).

But ok, i got you point, i am gonna keep my feet on ground and try to
start the initiative in my circles first (whenever i find the time to
do so) and as i start to see traction among the idea (i'm gonna coming
up with a more concrete plan and idea after having taken the first
formal steps towards that goal).

I just want to clarify my point again. I am great lover of trying to
improve things continuously in order to take them to the next level AND
agile an small steps towards a higher goal. But a small hacking event
in Germany with only a few very focused local attendees should not be
mixed up with all the effort other communities (especially the Spanish
community) continuously and successfully do (for the good of us all).
I'd personally feel bad if people come from near and far to the home
soil of SAP and something that is less well organized as the last few
iterations of an OCA code sprint (Barcelona, Italy, LLN) would be
experienced by all of those people just because we falsy used the term
"Hackathon, Sprint" in relation with "Odoo and OCA" but not having
organized it well upfront to contribute to the very visibiliy of the
OCA as a community of internation partners that contribute.

Sorry for being exhaustive on the matter again but thats how i *very
personally* feel about it.

Kind regards

Frederik
