Re: New Odoo Product Configurator Module
by
InitOS GmbH, Frederik Kramer
Hi Paul (dear others), sorry i am a kind of busy right at the moment. That is why i am hell late on replying your feedback (sorry for that). I am currently in Bruxelles to attend the Odoo strategy meeting tomorrow (let's see what they tell us new tomorrow ;-) Back to the matter: I really think refunding a certain amount of work somebody concisely spent into a well elaborated feature (such as your product configurator for Odoo) through a well-designed crowd funding campaign really has to succeed if the feature is a baseline one that at least a handful serious Odoo users require (i am pretty sure there are more than just a hand full and i know 100% sure that somebody burned more than the money you ask for from one of its customers in an an unsuccessful attempt to solve a pretty similar problem). If more of the 'let me call them' developing and innovating Odoo partners join forces and activate their partner as well as customer networks, i doubt this campaign won't succeed. As for the German part of the community (if this really ever existed, *ashamed*) i am currently struggling on different levels and with various different conversations (for instance there is a campaign going on underneath with some German partners to fund translation / localization for Odoo 9, since this is not that well established at the moment). One of the very important aspects in that regard to me is, if Odoo finally opts in to a sustainable Odoo Community and that -at least to my perspective- strongly relates to their own market strategy (we will hopefully learn something new here tomorrow). In any case i will try to discuss the "crowd funding" matter as soon as i can with the president of the OCA and my own team at initOS as well as the German community (or lets say the partners that seem to remain active here). I think we simply must find a sustainable and iteratable way to better fuel community development and not so often invent the wheal twice in every single corner of the world but we all need to also convince Odoo that the community might be a really admirable and sustainable source of innovation also for them. If not i see a tremendous risk of overall project failure even if Odoo has secured a decent market share and traction as of today.
